Unearth Pemberton this Autumn

There aren’t many places in the world where you can go behind the scenes in a truffle orchard, meet the producers of almost 80% of Australia’s avocado supply, make your own cheese and explore beyond the gate with farm tours.

Now imagine doing this alongside Slow Food ambassador Vince Garreffa and Chef and Foodie Ardal Nigg from Hidden River Estate. Pemberton, in WA’s South West, is in the heart of the Southern Forests food bowl.

You may not know much about the Southern Forests, but most likely you have been eating its produce most of your life. With goodies from the land, freshwater and sea, there is little that can’t be acquired here.

Think marron, truffles, finger limes, macadamia nuts and honey.

If you love going behind the scenes and indulging in the farm-to-fork experience, then a road trip to Unearthed Pemberton in May is a must.

The event calendar includes; beyond the gate food & farm tours, a Trufferie tour (where you go home with your own truffle tree), a book launch, a sundowner, a street party and an epic wine and cheese party.

With personalities such as Vince Garreffa from Mondos regaling with tales in the art butchery, Dan Pannell from Picardy talking everything wine, and legendary local Chef Ardal Nigg delighting your taste buds, the fifth year of Unearthed is looking stellar.

Unearth the possibilities

Pemberton is an easy 3-hour drive south from Perth and just over an hour from Margaret River. Set amongst ancient karri forests, Pemberton has a myriad of accommodation options to set up base camp, from glamping to luxurious and cosy cabins.

Unearthed kicks off with a cocktail soiree at the recently refurbished RAC Karri Valley Resort where you can catch up with artists, producers and operators and design your own adventure.

The next seven days will deliver a sensory overload with growers - Pottinger Truffles, PJ Produce, and Finger Lime Farm.

With art – Sculptures in the Vines, Jack Bradshaw’s book launch, and Coppelia movie screening.

With adventure: Yeagarup dunes 4WD safaris, a social mountain bike ride and a bespoke food & farm experience tour.

Finally, round out the week with a relaxed street party that celebrates local marron, wine and music.

Tickets are selling fast, with limited numbers in some cases. Head over to www.unearthedpemberton.com.au to book and coordinate your adventure beyond the gate.
