Spotlighting

Night time brings out the nocturnal activity of our unique animals, birds, insects and reptiles. Andy from the Pemberton Hiking Company is an experienced guide. He is available to showcase to you Pemberton’s fauna.

Should you be camping in the bush or staying in self contained accommodation in a forestry area, switch off your lights or step out of the campfire light for a while with a flashlight - you will see different coloured eyes flashing in the light which indicates different types of animals.

Wendy offers Bug and Frog tours at Big Brook Dam on Monday and Friday evenings. Depending on the time of year, these tours normally depart from the beach car park at the dam at 5pm for Bugs in the Bush and 7pm for Frogs in the Forest. The tours are tailored towards children however everyone benifits and it is a great evening out.

Swimming

There are some great swimming spots to be found in Pemberton, however you must ensure that you supervise your kids as we do not have a life guard on duty.

The water in the lakes and rivers is very high in Tannins. This is due to the plants and geology of the ground that the water runs through and makes the water look a dirty brown colour. There is nothing wrong with this however it may stain white clothes if worn in the water. It tends to make the top metre or so of the water quite warm and therefore great for swimming. It is no good for snorkeling, as you just can't see. Because of the tendency of the water to get warm there is the chance of Meningitis or Meningococcal present so you need to understand that you swim at your own risk.

Great Swimming Spots

The Shire of Manjimup have heated the pool in Manjimup - this is also enclosed and available year round for warm swimming!

This is located on Rutherford St next to the high school.

Caution - Swim at own risk

Windy Harbour is the only recommended swimming location along our wild coastline. There are NO patrolled beaches in Manjimup Shire.

Please note - some accommodation places have swimming pools available for their clients. As they are not available to the general public we have not mentioned them here.
