Also available are fabulous Cheese platters or pate platters and you can also buy a cuppa!

NORTHCLIFFE - WINDY HARBOUR DAY

This days outing is based from Pemberton, however this information can be utilised from all accommodation places in Pemberton. As there is little in the way of shopping in Windy Harbour it is advisable to take with you sunscreen, bathers, fly repellent, suitable walking shoes, a jacket, perhaps a barbecue or picnic and drinking water. There is no petrol station after Northcliffe.

This trip would take approximately 45min minutes in driving time. (one way ) However you could easily spend 4-6 hours taking this trip.

Drive via Pemberton to Northcliffe Rd and head towards Northcliffe. Before leaving the area though, a stop at the Cascades is a must. (A great place to explore or picnic). Have your fishing line handy for that big trout! (A licence is required)

Barbecue facilities are well set up. Make time to follow the wonderful bush trails. Good walking shoes are required.

In Northcliffe, call into the Northcliffe Visitors Centre where they have an interesting rock collection and Museum. Ask for directions to the Muirillup Rock walk.

The Forest Park Drive is well worth the visit. The drive loops around to return back to town. It is well sign-posted and great for walks in the spring. Don't miss the Hollow Butt and giant twin karri, which is 50 metres from the fire look-out tree.

Continue southbound and you may wish to call into the Boorara Tree and Lane-Poole Falls for a picnic or bush walk. Winter is the best time however like the majority of Karri Forest haunts there really is not a bad time of the year for enjoying the forests.

It is a 5 kilometre return walk to visit the 12 metre sleuce-like falls. To reach them the walk takes you through thick virgin bush. It is advisable not to leave the track. The best photography is in the early afternoon and between April and December.

Climb Mt Chudalup 6 Kilometres south of Northcliffe. It is a 190-metre granite dome, which is amongst the Karri trees forest with unique rock flora. It is an excellent area for general rambles. Great views from the top.

Follow the Wheatley Coast Road south to Windy Harbour 27 km from Northcliffe. It is a small holiday and fishing settlement. It has good snorkelling, launching ramps, fishing (mainly boat) some beach and rock, a camping ground with no power and no petrol. It is a very popular spot in the summer.

There is a scenic drive to the lighthouse and Salmon Beach. This is a solar lighthouse unlike the one in Augusta. At the lighthouse there is a wheelchair/pram friendly walk trail hugging the cliffs this scenic walk has a number of "balconies" over hanging the limestone cliffs. Simply awesome! Whales, dolphins and seals are often sited from these viewing platforms.

On the way back into town you will pass the turn off to Salmon Beach. Again, it is a gravel road but suitable for 2 wheel drive. There are fabulous paths along the escarpment with decking overlooking the ocean offering panoramic views of the ocean. Here you will find barbecue and toilet facilities and can enjoy that much deserved leisurely stroll along the sandy beach paddling in the Southern Ocean before heading home. Please bring home all your rubbish.
